Leading European BtoB distributor


The organisation is a leading European BtoB distributor with a technical product focus of about 9000 employees . The Benelux organisation consists of 200 employees. The Benelux head office is located in the Netherlands.




We are looking for a Managing Director Benelux. Overall he/she has to lead the Benelux division in its development, delivering growth and performance in support of the strategy of the Group. Financial, operational, customer and people KPI’s have to be achieved through the development, implementation and review of appropriate strategies, ensuring that both Group performance expectations and all customer requirements and expectations are met or exceeded.
The MD Benelux has to lead and develop capability throughout the organisation, such that the organisation is differentiated from the competition by the quality of its people and their skills and delivers its contribution in achieving overall strategic ambitions both in short- and long term.


The ideal candidate is an ambitious and energising leader with a hawk’s eye for commercial and strategic business opportunities. He/she has typically a minimum of 15 years senior management experience in a business to business distribution environment, ideally with a technical component and with multi-site operations. Broad knowledge of BtoB distribution industry standards, general understanding/awareness of project businesses is important.


  • Bachelor degree in a business related discipline such as Engineering or Management, with a further qualification at Masters Level or MBA being ideal in a relevant business/technical degree or equivalent;
  • Experience in transforming operational models and growing a business - understanding how to assess markets and devise strategies to win profitable business and move organisations to the next level;
  • Highly influential with strong persuasive skills, combined with the interpersonal agility to comfortably relate and adapt to individuals and groups at all levels in the organisation, both internal and external;
  • Effective working at both strategic and operational levels;
  • Familiar with best practice of comparable organisations and the latest initiatives in change management, operational efficiency and performance management;
  • Proven track record of running complex and diverse, high profile national companies going through significant change;
  • Experience of leading and delivering M&A activity;
  • Proven Leader and change agent, a motivator with the ability to inspire;
  • A collaborator that knows how to ensure successful outcomes for those with whom the business is engaged, throughout the business process;
  • Confident, resilient, resourceful, self-sufficient and focused;
  • Results driven in a commercial and operational environment;
  • Able to identify talent and capable of developing a highly motivated and performing team; a mentor and a coach who is not afraid of having ‘difficult conversations’ when required.
